Impulse Jet fans are the modern solution for the construction of ventilation and smoke-extraction systems in large enclosed parking lots and tunnels with significant length or heavy traffic. The trend over the past 5 years shows that these fans are now completely replacing traditional fire-resistant ducts.
About Jet fans: Jet fans are impulse fans that transport large volumes of air over long distances.
They are available in two types, depending on where the air is drawn from. They can be configured with motors of different protection classes, depending on the intended use of the installation.
Installations:
Jet fans are positioned at specific intervals in the garage, with the purpose of directing the air to the point where it will be expelled from the building – through ventilation shafts, directly through louvered grilles, or via wall-mounted exhaust fans. The intake of fresh air occurs through the entry and exit ramps or, again, through ventilation shafts, louvered grilles, or supply fans.
The correct selection and placement of fans in the parking garage eliminates areas of stagnant air and leads to the optimization of the ventilation system’s operation.
Tests conducted by the manufacturer show that a system using Jet fans is 15–20% more efficient than the previous systems using fire-resistant ducts. The removal of smoke from the area of its origin is reduced to under 30 minutes, increasing the safety of people using the space and facilitating the work of fire-fighting teams.
A short video by our partners at Soler & Palau visually illustrates the operation of smoke-extraction ventilation in an enclosed parking garage.
