Background: “Lufthansa Technik Sofia” was opened at the end of 2007 as the fifth highly competitive base in Europe for major maintenance and servicing of narrow-body aircraft.
During the repair activities, grinding operations are carried out, which generate a significant amount of dust. During the construction of the first stage of the facility, three vacuum dust collection systems were installed: two based on FlexPack 1000 with 7 suction points each, equipped with automatic vacuum valves TAV 50 FV/MV-W, and one based on VAC 20-3000 ASC, High Vacuum Starter (PLC) 6, FlexFilter Twin, and 16 valves TAV 50 FV/MV-W.
According to the project, in one of the rooms with intensive dust generation, only suction filters were installed, which did not meet expectations.
Solution: During the construction of the second stage of the facility’s expansion, a vacuum system was traditionally installed based on VAC-20-1500 ASC, High Vacuum Starter (PLC) 4, FlexFilter Single, and 14 units of TAV 50 FV/MV 24V, 4 of which are connected to balanced arms BA 250.
For the problematic room, a “push-pull” system was implemented by extracting air through floor grates and returning the purified air via perforated ceiling grilles. The system also includes: FilterMax DF 80, Fan NCF 120/15, Fan Starter 11, fire and/or overheating protection, longitudinally welded air ducts, and an alarm unit.
