Dust collection from woodworking in one of the largest woodworking companies in Europe.

What began as a small sawmill in Germany is now one of the largest woodworking companies in Europe, employing 1,600 people across 6 locations in Europe. The German factory, which produces timber, garden wood products, wood briquettes, packaging timber, and more, has a processing capacity of 650,000 m³ of sawn and planed wood annually. To handle the large volume of dust generated from wood processing, Nederman provided a proven and highly efficient dust collection solution for woodworking, including extraction, filtration, transportation, and recycling of wood chips in a safe and effective manner.

Challenges in Woodworking Dust Collection

The wood chips generated during various woodworking processes must be carefully collected, transported, and filtered to avoid the risk of fire and explosion. The German company faced challenges in handling the large volume of 20 tons of wood chips per hour that needed to be transported to containers, silos, incineration sites, or palletizing areas. They required a safe and efficient dust collection solution with low energy consumption to create a more efficient production process, a healthier work environment, and to comply with current regulations on combustible dust.

Dust Collection System Compatible with ATEX Standards

To handle the large volume of wood chips and dust and safely extract air at over 180,000 m³/h, Nederman installed 6 LBR SmartFilter filtration units, equipped with Combifab F fans and CARZ explosion isolation valves, each individually designed and sized for the specific application. Energy-efficient IE3 motors and frequency converters facilitate the transportation of wood chips over hundreds of meters, where they are then briquetted or pelletized at central discharge points.

The solution is safe and ATEX-compliant, with low operating and maintenance costs, thereby generating significant energy savings for the production process, as well as added value from the recycling of wood chips.

Key Advantages of the Provided Dust Collection Solution:

  • Comprehensive Solution and Installation;
  • ATEX-compliant;
